Microsoft Secures $6.2B AI Infrastructure Deal in Norway
Microsoft has inked a $6.2 billion agreement with Nscale Global and Aker to establish high-performance AI infrastructure in Narvik, Norway. The five-year deal, set to begin phased deployment in 2026, will leverage renewable energy and secured grid capacity to deliver cutting-edge AI services across Europe.
The partnership marks one of the world's largest GPU deployments, with Nscale CEO Josh Payne highlighting its efficiency and compliance advantages. Aker's Øyvind Eriksen positions Narvik as a future European hub for sovereign AI infrastructure, powered by Norway's clean hydropower resources.
This investment follows Microsoft's broader $30 billion AI commitment in the UK, underscoring the tech giant's aggressive expansion in next-generation computing infrastructure. The Aker-Nscale joint venture is expected to formalize in Q3 2025, with project costs offset by deal revenues.
